Who We Are, Optimist Youth Homes and Family Services mission isto provide
culturally sensitive comprehensive treatment, specialized education, and support
services to abused, neglected, or at-risk children and youth and their families to
establish stability within families and communities.Founded in 1906, as the
Strickland Home for Boys, OYHFS (also known as OptimistBoys Home and
Ranch Inc.) has provided care for thousandsof abused and neglected children of
all ages. By combining therapy, education, life skills instruction, and proper home
life, we have advanced our mission to help young people overcome the negative
experiences of their youth in order to lead meaningful, independent adult lives.
This has been accomplished with the generous and dedicated support of the
Pacific Southwest, Cal South and Southeast District Optimist Clubs and many
other philanthropic efforts from the community at large. As one of the largest
private non-profit multi-program children's behavioral health agencies in the
state of California, we extend care to underprivileged boys and girls and their
families of all ethnic backgrounds. The range of treatment programs of OYHFS
consists of residential care, community based group homes, independent living,
day treatment, special education, foster care, adoptions, and mental health
services. These programs are fully accredited nationally by the Council on
Accreditation (COA) and statewide by the California Alliance of Children and
Family Services (CACFS). Our dedicated and highly trained staff provide the
basic necessities, plus a generous amount of therapy, structure, love, and
understanding to each and every child in order to give them a chance at the
bright future they all so richly deserve. Optimist Youth Homes and Family
Services is more than just a temporary stop. It is a haven for today's troubled
children and a safe place for them to prepare for lives as a productive citizens.
