Optimist Youth Homes and Family
Services owns and operates four
community-based STRTP’s in
smaller homes throughout the
Los Angeles area, two of which are
reserved for girls. Each houses
six adolescents and is staffed by a clinical therapist a facility manager and youth care counselors.
Some, though not all, of the residents in these homes are graduates from the main campus. This provides a continuity of care model for our agency. Other referrals are accepted directly into the smaller homes provided the youth are able to live in community settings that depend upon the community for activities such as recreation and/or education endeavors. While many of the residents in the homes are educated in our own charter school, this is not necessarily a requirement. All receive mental health services from our professional staff.
Recreational activities are typically scheduled in each home with the input of the residents. When the Recreation Department has special outings or donations, the group homes are often included.
Youth Care Counselors provide basic nurturing, structure and consistency of routine for the youth. Unlike the campus, the group homes also teach food preparation and laundry skills, replicating a home-like setting.
Like the campus residential units, each home has its own particular rules and
