Optimist Youth Homes and Family Services opened its Foster Family Agency in 1993 in response to an increased need for quality foster homes.

The ages of the clients, all referred by the County Department
of Children and Family Services, ranges from birth through
21 years.  Optimist is licensed by the State of California
Department of Social Services to recruit, train, and
certify foster and adoptive parents. Our social workers
provide ongoing support to our foster/adoptive families
and clients. This is done through regular visits and an
on-call system that makes services available twenty-four
hours a day, seven days a week.  In addition, social work
staff compile comprehensive treatment plans, monthly
reports and referrals for outside services, if necessary.
We have served well over 5,000 children in loving and
caring foster homes since 1993.

All Optimist foster parents receive formalized training as well as certification in First Aid and CPR. We also provide financial assistance to aid foster parents in caring for their foster children.

Prospective foster parents can apply using the application on this website. For more information on becoming a foster parent, please refer to the following links:

PRIDE Foster  Parent Training Schedule
AB 12

In January 2012, a new law known as AB 12 was put
into place. Recognizing that many foster youth who
age out of the system at 18 years are woefully
unprepared for independence, AB 12 extends foster
care services through the age of 21 and allows
for more housing possibilities.

Foster youth with a suitable placement order on their
18th birthday may continue to receive supportive services
if they meet at least one of the following eligibility criteria:

• Are enrolled in high school or equivalent program
• Are enrolled in college/vocational school
• Work at least 80 hours/month
• Participate in a program/activity that helps them find a job or removes barriers to employment
• Are unable to do one of the above because of  a medical or mental health condition

Optimist is looking for new Resource Parents and we think that you could help!!!
