Optimist’s residentially placed clients
receive a variety of mental health
services including intensive
individual and group therapy,
psychiatric services, multi-family
groups, substance abuse treatment,
recreation therapy, and expressive
arts therapy including art, music and movement.
INDIVIDUAL THERAPY is used to treat the effects of trauma, problems in social
relationships, and/or family problems effecting the client’s emotional well-being. The role of
parents as partners in the treatment process is highly emphasized in the client’s mental health
program. Parents are included in the development of the treatment plan, in family therapy
sessions whenever possible, and in collateral sessions to focus on their role as parents.
AFTERCARE SERVICES are offered to all Los Angeles County program graduates and
their families for up to one year to assist with the reintegration process and to help clients
maintain the goals achieved through our residential program services. This vital addition to
our program in 2002 has led to consistent successes amongst participants, 65% of whom
have remained crime free and no longer in need of out of home placement.
